A small-bore rifle is a long firearm with a rifled barrel, chambered for the 5.6mm rimfire cartridge (.22LR). To own a single-shot or repeating small-bore rifle, one must have a firearms license and the weapon must be registered with the relevant police department (category C weapon). Additionally, to purchase a semi-automatic small-bore rifle, one must obtain a purchase permit in advance (category B weapon).
The small-bore rifle is primarily used for sport shooting, but it is also utilized in hunting (mainly for pest control).
