As part of the advanced DD5 platform, it delivers consistent performance, stability, and long-term durability in the .308 Winchester (7.62×51 mm) caliber. Both the upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard-coat anodized finish. The lower receiver features an enhanced flared magazine well and a rear QD sling attachment point, ensuring efficient handling and adaptability in the field.
At the core of the rifle is an 18" Cold Hammer Forged barrel made from Daniel Defense’s proprietary steel, built in the heavy S2W profile and chrome-lined for exceptional longevity and reliability. The 1:10 twist rate provides optimal stabilization for a wide range of .308 projectiles, while the robust barrel profile ensures consistent accuracy and stable thermal performance. The rifle operates on a rifle-length gas system paired with a user-adjustable gas block made from hardened 4140 steel, allowing the shooter to fine-tune the weapon for both suppressed and unsuppressed use.
The perfected bolt carrier group contributes significantly to the rifle’s smooth operation. It features a superfinished, DLC-coated surface that enhances durability, reduces friction, and makes cleaning easier. The carrier includes an integrated buffer to optimize cycling and reduce felt recoil, while the bolt itself incorporates enhanced extractor geometry and dual ejectors for reliable operation under all conditions. Accuracy is further supported by the innovative four-bolt barrel connection system, which minimizes movement between the barrel and upper receiver.
A 15" DD5 Rail handguard made from 6061-T6 aluminum provides ample mounting space through the M-LOK interface and offers excellent rigidity. The ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP charging handle includes anti-gas features, improving comfort and control, especially during suppressed shooting. The rifle is equipped with the Daniel Defense Superior Suppression Device muzzle brake, machined from 17-4 PH stainless steel with a salt-bath nitride finish and mounted on a 5/8×24 threaded muzzle.
Ergonomics are enhanced by the Daniel Defense buttstock and pistol grip, both reinforced with glass-filled polymer and finished with soft-touch overmolding for a secure, comfortable hold. The DD5 V4 accepts SR-25Magpul PMAG 20-round pattern magazines and comes equipped with a rugged full-latch polymer case.
