Ruger American Pistol Competition is a sport-oriented semi-automatic handgun designed primarily for dynamic shooting disciplines where speed, accuracy, and reliability are essential. It is based on the proven Ruger American Pistol platform, further refined for USPSA / IPSC and 3-Gun competition, while offering an exceptionally attractive balance between performance and affordability.
At the core of the design is a 5" (127 mm) barrel chambered in 9×19 mm, featuring compensating ports that help reduce muzzle rise and felt recoil during rapid fire. The ported slide, finished in durable black nitride, contributes to faster target reacquisition and increased surface durability. The combination of the longer barrel and optimized slide mass enhances overall stability and allows for quick, controlled follow-up shots.
The sighting system is fully optimized for competition use. A fiber-optic front sight ensures fast target acquisition, while the fully adjustable serrated rear target sight allows precise zeroing. The slide is also optics-ready, enabling easy installation of a red dot sight without the need for additional modifications.
The pistol features a striker-fired trigger system with a classic Browning-type locking system, optimized for consistent and responsive shooting performance. An ergonomic wrap-around grip module with interchangeable grip panels allows the shooter to tailor the grip size and feel to individual preferences.
